Community development exchange Janet Limberg October 2014 ‘The key purpose of community development practice is to challenge disadvantage and inequality, and to build communities based on the principles of social justice, equality and mutual respect.’

 that good relationships are at the heart of good behaviour management. They should be able to form positive, appropriate, professional relationships with their pupils.  what effect their responses, both verbal and non-verbal, can have on children’s behaviour.  why children misbehave and why some children demonstrate more challenging behaviour. Janet Limberg October 2014

 When you were growing up, describe the communities where you felt that you belonged. Describe what it felt like to belong.  When you were growing up, describe the communities where you did not feel that you belonged to. Describe what it felt like to be excluded. Janet Limberg October 2014

 Pool your experiences, look for common themes. Write these down into a chart. Janet Limberg October 2014 Positive experiences: what made these experiences generative Negative experiences: what made these experiences degenerative

Some negative or degenerative experiences can be positive in that they can help children to develop coping strategies, provided that support is in place. Janet Limberg October 2014

 Describe the support that is needed for children as they move from one setting to another eg nursery, reception, junior school, secondary school.  Choose one of these scenarios and make a list of what support would need to be in place to ensure that children develop a sense of being part of the school community.  Think about how this can be made sustainable?  Think about how this may need to be developed/adapted for a child with a specific need such as aspergers. Janet Limberg October 2014
