Autobiography My name is Faye Swain. I was born and raised in Dothan, Alabama. I am married with wonderful GROWN children and grandchildren. My husband and I are actively involved in the women and men ministries at our church, Acts Church Christian Center. I serve as the finance data assistant, on the Board of Directors, and perform secretarial duties.

. CONTINUED I originally enrolled at Wallace College in 1978, two years after graduating from high school to pursue a degree in education, but soon stopped to raised a “growing” family. I returned to Wallace and finally received an associate degree. I soon realized that working with young children was my calling. I then began working for the Dothan City Schools system. I retired after 26 years and 10 months of service, with 18 of those years as a preschool teacher for Head Start. I eventually received a degree in Early Childhood Education (with honors) and enjoys my venture with mentoring and learning.

Students learn differently. Teachers teach differently. Just like there is diversity in values, customs, beliefs, in an individual, there are different learning and teaching styles as well. There are kinesthetic, auditory, and visual teaching strategies and learners. No two teachers/students teach and learn exactly the same way. Some teachers present lessons more formally than others. Some students grasp concepts faster than others. With some students, repetition and frequent reviews of a lesson is needed with lessons. It will take teachers who is dedicated to cultivate a positive outcome. Sometimes this will acquire revision of strategies. PHILOSOPHY

My role as a Mentor Coach is to work democratically with all of the teachers. I will collaborate with the teachers to adjust any practices according to the student’s individual differences. This decision will be based on observation and knowledge of the student’s interests, abilities, skills, family circumstances, and peer relationships. I believe that there is no one truth, one way, or one solution, because what works for one may not work for another! It is my responsibility to promote self- discovery. Continued
