SELECTING A BOOK

Some things to remember:  Length is not important; however, your interest & willingness to read the book it. Choose carefully.  Read the first few pages to see if the writer’s style is inviting and understandable.  Choose a book that will accommodate your schedule and reading ability. Try to challenge yourself with either length or difficulty of language, but not both.

One last thing  Some books may contain frank discussions of sexuality and violence; some have social, cultural and historical contexts that can create obstacles to your comprehension. Make sure that your book choice is appropriate for you from both your and your parents’ perspectives.

Guidelines for Books 1. It must be a book. 2. It must have more words than pictures. 3. It must be something you’re interested in. 4. It must be something your parent/guardian, if asked, would allow you to read. 5. It must not be a book you are reading for another class. 6. Please clear the book with me before starting.
