Learning Target On a separate sheet of paper, write the learning target: I will evaluate the soundness, relevance, and sufficiency of evidence presented in the specific claims and arguments of a speaker. Identify the terms in red…what does this mean?

Quickwrite Write a letter to the President to express your feelings about the death penalty (what would you say). Draft a short letter (2 paragraphs) to the President expressing your feelings about the death penalty. Provide relevant evidence in your arguments for support.

Pick a topic Choose one death penalty essay (either the pro or con) and read it independently. After reading, partner with someone who has the same essay and begin a SOAPSTone analysis of the argument and evidence (you will document your finding on the graphic organizer). share out some of the main points and supporting evidence for each essay.

Exit Slip After reading evaluating the differing viewpoints, select one viewpoint and respond. What is the author's attitude and tone and provide evidence for support?
