Indonesian Tsunami Prayer Update Week 1 - January 1, 2005 “Run! The Water is Coming!” Freely Distribute to Churches to Encourage Prayer and Relief Aid © 2005 JDN - National Prayer Network NOAA

On Dec. 26 the World’s Largest Earthquake in 40 Years caused Tidal Waves 5 to 50 feet high which struck 11 nations, and killed thousands in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and Thailand.

Topics Week 1 Topics Week 1 1.The capital Banda is 50% destroyed (Beach to Mosque) 2.Most coastal cities and roads erased 3.Aid stuck on Tarmac 4.Christians responding from Medan, Jakarta 5.P.R.A.Y. for Aceh 6.Ways to give

Snapshots from Aceh Mosque Beach A least 7 tsunami waves surged up into the beach neighborhoods. The waters reached to the center of Banda and the great Mosque, carrying hundreds of corpses and tons of debris. Sunday beach goers, returning fishermen, morning market shoppers: all were swept away.

The Outer Beach in Banda About 3,600 people lived in the beach neighborhod of Meuraxa, and many city kids were playing at the beach last Sunday morning. It has been completely destroyed. Before and after. From DigitalGlobe

“Run! The water is coming! I n just a few minutes thousands had lost their families. This must be what Judgment Day looks like, with hysterical screams and thousands of people looking for their loved ones, everywhere.” Nani Afrida, Jakarta Post A dozen Christian ministry workers were gathered for worship Sunday morning when they felt the quake and saw the tide run out. They ran for their lives and made it to higher ground. All were saved, though only one of their homes was not destroyed. No time for that. It was time to try to save others.

Lhoknga Destroyed Coastal highways gone, No roads, airports or ports. Dec 29, 2004 Jan 10, 2004

Aid stuck on the Tarmack The scarcest resources are transport and local language speakers to help coordinate and deliver the aid to remote areas and the new refugee camps. Three weeks worth of food is sitting on the tarmac, waiting on bureaucrats and transportation.

Christians Truck in Aid The National Prayer Network and hundreds of Indonesian churches are sending aid with native speakers directly to Aceh. 10 Doctors arrive Dec 27 Collection Centers set up in major Cities Dec 28 National ministry teams depart for Aceh Dec 29 Truckloads of food leave Medan Dec 30 Boat transport secured for coastal areas Dec 30 More teams arrive Jan 3 ALL COASTAL ROADS DESTROYED

How To P.R.A.Y. for Aceh 1.Pray for “P” Teams – Prayer Network and Prayer Warriors The National Prayer Network has organized a massive interdenominational coalition to send aid and ministry teams to Aceh from the nearest large city, MEDAN, North Sumatra. 2. Pray for the “R” teams – Resident field workers About a dozen long-term field workers survived the waves. They speak the local dialect and know the needs intimately. 3. Pray for the “A” teams – Aid delivery from many nations. Many Muslims will be shocked by the kindness of the West. 4. Pray for the “Y” teams – Teams sharing about “Yesus” or Isa-al-Masih (Jesus the Messiah) with Muslims. Seminaries, churches, and mission teams are sending workers to this harshest Muslim region to share the gospel.
