GLOBAL WARMING Global warming and climate change are terms for the observed century-scale rise in the average temperature of the Earth's climate system and its related effects.
Multiple lines of scientific evidence show that the climate system is warming. Although the increase of near-surface atmospheric temperature is the measure of global warming often reported in the popular press, The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC) reported in 2014 that scientists were more than 95% certain that most of global warming is caused by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases and other human (anthropogenic) activities Multiple lines of scientific evidence show that the climate system is warming. Future climate change and associated impacts will differ from region to region around the globe.region to region Anticipated effects include warming global temperature, rising sea levels, changing precipitation, and expansion of deserts in the subtropics
TEMPERATURE CHANGES Earth has been in radiative imbalancesince at least the 1970s, where less energy leaves the atmosphere than enters it. Most of this extra energy has been absorbed by the oceans It is very likely that human activities substantially contributed to this increase in ocean heat content.
CAUSES OF TEMPERATURE CHANGES Greenhouse gases: is the process by which absorption and emission of infrared radiation by gases in a planet's atmosphere warm its lower atmosphere and surface Aerosols and soot: The effects of the products of fossil fuel combustion –CO2 and aerosols Solar activity Variations in Earth's orbit Greenhouse gases: is the process by which absorption and emission of infrared radiation by gases in a planet's atmosphere warm its lower atmosphere and surface Aerosols and soot: The effects of the products of fossil fuel combustion –CO2 and aerosols Solar activity Variations in Earth's orbit The climate system can warm or cool in response to changes in external forcings. These are "external" to the climate system but not necessarily external to Earth
.. 2014 was the year most hot in all the time During the 21st century, glaciers and snow cover are projected to continue their widespread retreat. Detection" is the process of demonstrating that climate has changed in some defined statistical sense, without providing a reason for that change. 2014 was the year most hot in all the time During the 21st century, glaciers and snow cover are projected to continue their widespread retreat. Observed and expected environmental effects Extreme weather Sea level rise Ecological systems Long-term effects Large-scale and abrupt impacts
THE SOLUTIONS: Boosting energy efficiency: The energy used to power, heat, and cool our homes, businesses, and industries is the single largest contributor to global warming Greening transportation: The transportation sector's emissions have increased at a faster rate than any other energy-using sector over the past decade. Phasing out fossil fuel electricity: Dramatically reducing our use of fossil fuels—especially carbon-intensive coal—is essential to tackle climate change. Managing forests and agriculture Adapting to changes already underway: As the Climate Hot Map demonstrates, the impacts of a warming world are already being felt by people around the globe.
