Desk Top Publishing Package n A desk top publishing package is another General Purpose Package. n It is used to produce professional looking reports, newletters, booklets and magazines.

Features of a DTP Package n The particular features of desktop publishing packages are: – using wizards or templates – entering text – adding clip art – importing graphics – scaling graphics – changing layouts – importing text – text wrap around graphics

Features of a DTP Package n Using Templates n Templates can be used to mark out standard layouts for a number of pages. n Most DTP packages allow the use of ready made templates or you can create your own. n Templates can speed up the process of creating a document. n Using Wizards n Wizards leads the user step by step through the creation of a document.

Features of a DTP Package n Entering Text n Like all other general purpose packages, a DTP package allows the user to enter text into a document n The text can be entered directly or n The text can be entered into a word processing package first and then inserted into the DTP package.

Features of a DTP Package n Adding Clip Art – Clip Art is a collection of professionally drawn images supplied on disk or included as part of an application package – The Clip Art can be added to the DTP document. n Importing Graphics – Graphics produced from a digital camera or scanner can also be inserted into a DTP document. – Care must be taken to use the correct graphic format.

Features of a DTP Package n Scaling Graphics – This means changing its size. – Scaling allows graphics to be resized to fit into a particular space on a page. – Scaling can be precise by entering a number – or imprecise by using the graphics tools of the DTP package

Features of a DTP Package n Change Layout – Pages of a news paper or a magazine, are laid out differently. – The text can be arranged in columns but on each page the size of the columns may vary. n Import Text – This means entering text from a file rather than directly from the computer keyboard. – Standard file formats such as text, ASCII or RTF can be used.

Features of a DTP Package n Text Wrap – Text can be wrapped around a graphic in various ways. – This saves space being wasted on a page.
