KS4 Success Evening They Think It’s All Over…

Structure of the evening  Mr Taylor – Assistant Head teacher  Post 16 options and opportunities  Mr Glover – Head of Year 11  How parents can help  Dr Cullen – Head of Social Sciences  What we know about the brain

Raising Achievement

The most significant thing we can give our students is high achievement

Why?

have a positive impact on....

The careers they pursue....

The salaries they earn....

The lifestyles they lead...

Currently one in five (22%) employers would not recruit someone with less than five GCSE’s Learning Skills Council

Research shows employers will pay an extra £3,261 per year to new staff with 5 A*- C GCSEs compared to someone with no qualifications Learning Skills Council

Because by 2020…. …there will be 3 million fewer lower skilled jobs in the UK

... there will be a 50% increase in the number of jobs which need high level skills.

Success begins and ends with...

1. A ‘can do’ mentality...

If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got

2. High expectations – ambitious and challenging targets

Now it’s time for actions....

Passport to the Prom (achievement log!)...

Rigorous monitoring and tracking....

Year 11 target setting....

SLT Mentoring...

Form Tutor mentoring....

Motivational speakers....

Praise Postcards and Golden ticket rewards....

Innovative use of study leave....

Raising Achievement assemblies...

Raising Achievement wall....

Revision days....

Reward trip....

Raising Achievement celebration assembly....

After school targeted revision sessions….

Easter revision sessions….

Every child can achieve remarkable success

Parental involvement....

How can you help your child?  Provider of the tools for revision  Information provider - revision guides  Sounding board and adviser  Project manager - revision timetable  Go – between

How can you help your child?  Agree the balance between revision and social life and stick to the agreement  ‘If they say they’ve got no revision to do, they’re lying!’  Consider a reward structure – NOT bribery!

The only way to predict the future, is to create it.

Key Dates  Spring Assessments home 1 st April  Exams start 8 th May (IGCSE English)  Exams end 18 th June  Study leave TBC  Prom Thursday 10 th July  Celebration assembly Tuesday 8 th July
