WELCOME TO CAHSEE Week Five

NOTES- any slide with a green title should be written down in your notebook.

Lesson #9- Measurement and Geometry 1.1

Ratios and Proportions (10mins) Ratio- comparing two amounts. 1 hour 60 minutes Proportions- two ratios that equal each other. 1 hour = 2 hours 60 minutes x minutes

Example (write down the entire problem) It takes you 3 hours to ride your bike from Downtown LA to Orange County. You ride the total 65 miles without stopping. What is your average speed in miles per hour? 3 hours = 1 hour 65 miles x miles 3x= x= 21.66, round off to the nearest tenth= 21.7 miles per hour

Steps 1) Ratios= units must match! 3 hours = 1 hour 65 miles x miles **** Hours on top and miles on bottom. 2) Cross multiply 3) Divide to find x.

Bootcamp Practice (15 mins)  Pages you may write on.

Bootcamp Practice  Raise your hand if you need any help  Ask questions NOW, the Cahsee will be too late ! *Teacher will determine grouping (independent, pairs, etc.)

CHECK YOUR WORK- 2 mins Page 77 Problem #Answer pounds feet feet per second

CHECK YOUR WORK Page 78 Problem #Answer 1128 ounces 2300,000 pounds 36.9 gallons yards (wide) 58.8 miles per hour

Lesson #10- Measurement and Geometry 1.3

Rates- 8 mins  Rate- type of ratio, amounts are related to each other.

Example #1 If you drove from Downtown LA to San Diego it would take your 2 hours for the 123 miles. What’s your car’s rate of speed? 123 ÷ 2= 61.5 miles per hour

Example #2 It took 7 workers 5 person- days each to complete a job. What was the total number of person-days needed to complete the job? 7x 5= 35 days

Bootcamp Practice (10 mins)  Pages you may write on.
