Why? –When children see their parents actively involved in their educational process, they understand the importance and commitment that parents and significant others are willing to invest in their future Types of Commitment/Involvement –Monitoring homework –Attending school functions –Reading and responding to communications from school –Preparing teaching materials at home –Offering special expertise to the teacher –Constructing classroom materials –Planning and coordinating parent help days –Fund raising events –Reading to children

Step by Step –Issue invitations –Plan for the parents’ time –Recognize parental efforts –Ask for feedback –Continue to expand –Establish school-wide efforts
