Welcome back Class 2! The Classroom In front of the large arch window is our topic area / role play zone. This term it is a robot workshop for the children to go in and design robots and gadgets of their own. Also we have construction pieces to practice fine motor skills of building a robot out of decorated boxes and tubes. All children have their own drawer for their book bags to be stored. We have water bottle crates on the side board for in class drinks. Lunch If your child is having a school lunch please make sure you have gone through the choices (a poster will be in the arch window asap) so they know which to select. Special Days/Trips There is no trip out of school this term, however, we will be have a special day in school to present our robot construction models in a robot catwalk towards the end of term, where the children can show their own robot in an exciting way. Parents are welcome to attend, Date TBC. Please send in any cardboard/ plastic packaging you have so we can use them to build our own robots as part of our DT unit. Homework This year we will not be sending spellings home to practise for a weekly test. Instead we will work in class on applying phonics and know High Frequency Word spellings. Children can have as many reading books per week as you would like, please feel free to change your books before or after school. Children will have a colour sticker on the front of their reading record book so you know which books are the right level for your child. Remember to record when you have read at home as I award a merit for each time. Children will be given a mental maths target to practise, this will be noted in their yellow communication book. The children earn a bronze, silver and gold star then are given a new target to work on. These are also kept on the front of their maths books. The targets may be writing certain numbers correctly, learning number bonds or times tables off by heart. Occasionally there might be an online activity or game pack sent home (there will be a note sent home in this case). Remember to check for games and activities on the active learn site, try to collect as many coins as you can to spend! Other information Attached is the termly overview so you can see what we are covering across the curriculum. If you have any robot toys/figures we could use this term please bring them and make sure your name on them. The children have a home/school communication book in their book bags (Mini Yellow book) these are checked everyday for any messages, please make sure they come to school each day in order for us to write you notes if necessary. If you have any questions or queries – please do not hesitate to contact me at school or via Many thanks Miss Rock
