In Groups of 2. BOY/GIRL Discuss the Enquiry Skills Question and how best you would answer it. 1st Task Politics of Aid 16 (Revision)

Make sure BOTH of you know how to answer this. 2nd Task Politics of Aid 16 (Revision)

When you have discussed the question thoroughly, prepare a written answer for your group. Politics of Aid 16 (Revision) 3rd Task

Study the profile on the next slide, then answer the question which follows … Question 1 Politics of Aid 16 (Revision)

CountryInfant Death Rate (per 1,000 live births) Life Expectancy % with access to sanitation % of adults who can read and write Sudan6956 Years75%75% Males 47% Females Malawi18338 Years76%58% Males 35% Females Profile of Sudan & Malawi

Using the table, say which of the countries is most in need of aid Give two reasons to support your answer Your answer must be based entirely on the information from the table (Enquiry Skills, 4 marks) Question 1 Politics of Aid 16 (Revision)

Malawi is the country in most need of aid. This is because the profile shows that Malawi has an Infant Death Rate of 183 per 1000 births whereas Sudan has an Infant Death Rate of only 69 per 1000 births. Another reason why Malawi is the country most in need of aid is the Life Expectancy. In Malawi, this is only 38 years old whereas the life expectancy of Sudan is 56 years old. Answer Politics of Aid 16 (Revision)

Using your worksheets and textbook, make up Spider Diagrams for the following. 1) THE PROBLEMS FACING DEVELOPING COUNTRIES 2) BILATERAL, MULTILATERAL AND VOLUNTARY AID 3) WHY COUNTRIES DO NOT ALWAYS BENEFIT FROM AID Spider Diagrams Politics of Aid 16 (Revision)

% People in selected African countries with access to safe water Politics of Aid 16 (Revision)

% Children in selected African countries attending Primary School Politics of Aid 16 (Revision)

Write down one conclusion about each of the following: PEOPLE WITH ACCESS TO SAFE WATER CHILDREN ATTENDING PRIMARY SCHOOL (Enquiry Skills, 4 Marks) Question 2 Politics of Aid 16 (Revision)

My first conclusion is that not all countries in Africa have the same access to safe water. I know this because in Botswana 95% of people have access to safe water, whereas in Burkina Faso 42% of people have access to safe water, and in Ethiopia only 24% of people have access to safe water. Answer 1 Politics of Aid 16 (Revision)

My second conclusion is that boys are more likely to receive a primary education than girls. I know this because, although in Botswana 98% of boys and 99% of girls receive a primary education, in Burkina Faso 40% of boys and 20% of girls receive a primary education, whereas in Ethiopia 43% of boys and 20% of girls receive a primary education. Answer 2 Politics of Aid 16 (Revision)

% Government income that comes from aid Politics of Aid 16 (Revision)

All four African countries have seen a reduction in the percentage of their Government income that comes from aid In 1991 Ethiopia relied most heavily on aid By 1996 Chad relied most heavily on aid In Kenya, the % of Government income coming from aid has remained the same Statements made by Ian Thomson, Aid Officer Politics of Aid 16 (Revision)

Using the information, write down two statements made by Ian Thomson which are exaggerated Using the bar graph, give one reason why each of the statements you have chosen is exaggerated Examination Question Politics of Aid 16 (Revision)

The exaggerated sentences are: All four African countries have seen a reduction in the percentage of their national income that comes from aid In Kenya the percentage of national income coming from aid has remained the same Exaggerated Sentences Politics of Aid 16 (Revision)

These two sentences must then be linked to an appropriate explanation which justifies your claim that they are exaggerated. Not all countries have seen a reduction in the percentage of national income that come from aid, as Chad has seen an increase In Kenya, the percentage of national income coming from aid has not remained the same; it has dropped from 12% to 8% Exaggerated Sentences Politics of Aid 16 (Revision)
