Applying Remote Sensing Technology to Agricultural Statistics of Beijing Wang Yanyan Beijing Municipal Bureau of Statistics October 2008

Contents  Introduction  About the projects  Achievements  Current progress of the practical application

Introduction Brief Review of Remote Sensing (RS )Application in China  Researches and practices have been conducted by governmental departments and research institutes since 1980’s.  Statistical departments began to use RS in recent years:  National Bureau of Statistics of China

Why we use RS - advantages of RS compared with the conventional methods  Spatiality : spatial distribution  Objectivity: avoid subjective factors or artificial interference  Efficiency : up-to-date data, less time, money, labor force spent on statistical survey Introduction

What we do on RS  2 projects based on RS:  Construction of Statistical Visual Platform based on “Beijing -1 Microsatellite”  Beijing Statistical Ecological Resource Remote Sensing Measurement Operation System

Targets of our projects  Study the methodology and techniques fit for RS application to Beijing agriculture  Develop a software platform  Achieve the RS vocational operation in agricultural statistics of Beijing About the Projects

Subjects of the Projects  Area measurement of wheat and maize  Yield estimation of wheat and maize  Area measurement of agricultural facilities  Vegetation coverage monitoring and NPP (Net Primary Production) estimation  Development of System Software About the Projects

Main methods of the projects  Precise Extraction Method Based on “Parcel of Field” Unit  Parcel-Level Method of RS Integrated with Spatial Sampling About the Projects

The methodology and techniques system contains:  Key Methodology and Techniques  Implementation Plan  Accuracy Evaluation System  Emergency Program About the Projects

 Spatial distributions of wheat and maize area  Spatial distributions of agricultural facilities area  System software demonstration Achievements

Wheat planting area in Beijing 2007

Maize planting area in Beijing 2007

Agricultural facility area in Beijing 2007

System Software The system software includes 7 sub- systems:  Operation Management System  Ecological Resource Measurement System  PDA Field Survey System  Product Fabrication System  Data Release System  Database Management System

Log-in Interface of Ecological Resource Measurement System subjectsLog in Ecological Resource Measurement System

Ecological Resource Measurement System

Data Release System Beijing Ecological Resources Data Publishing System Based on RS Crop areaCrop yield Seasonal vegetation coverage Agricultural facility area NPP

Data Release System Beijing Ecological Resources Data Publishing System Based on RS Menu Spatial location Attributes inquiry Data presentation Data analysis

 Multiple data sources;  Scientific methods;  Desirable accuracy;  Timely submission;  Simple procedure and manageable software;  Emergency program. Current progress of the practical application

 Provided with all these mentioned above, some of the subjects are now basically ready for vocational operation.  And this RS system for agricultural statistics of Beijing is planed to be actually used in Current progress of the practical application
