WELCOME TO HATZIC MIDDLE Effort Makes the Difference!

All students can learn and want to be successful. Learning enhances our lives and is a life-long process. Learning involves the active participation of students. All members of the school community should be treated with dignity and respect. Teachers can make an incredible difference in the lives of our students. Learning is a shared responsibility of the student, school, home, and community. Parents should feel valued as partners. AT HATZIC, WE BELIEVE…

Know how valued they are in our school. Respect and care for themselves and others. Develop a positive self image. Be enthusiastic learners and inquisitive thinkers. AT HATZIC, WE WANT ALL STUDENTS TO…

Hatzic has H.E.A.R.T. (HONESTY, EFFORT, ATTITUDE, RESPECT, TEAMWORK) Hatzic will be a closed campus. All students will be expected to remain on grounds. (This includes the lunch break) Hatzic is a hat free zone, including toques, bandanas and ball caps. Students at Hatzic are expected to have lockers, and to leave their bags stored away. WHAT ARE THE RULES AT HMS?

Hatzic Middle School is a place of learning where everyone is expected to dress appropriately. Expectations: – Tops must cover the upper body, including the back, chest, shoulders, and stomach. – The hems of shorts, dresses, and skirts must be longer than the finger tips when the arms are at the side. – Undergarments are meant to be under the garments. – Clothing may not promote graphics or slogans containing inappropriate content. – Students are not allowed to have their hoods up in the building, and bandanas are not permitted. Students who have chosen not to follow the HMS dress code, will be asked to address this immediately, and parents will be contacted. The complete dress code will be available on the Hatzic website by the end of June, DRESS CODE CONTINUED

Students will not be permitted to make use of personal electronic devices during instructional time, unless at the teacher’s discretion, and they are used for educational purposes only. All students, using headphones, must only have one piece in the ear at all times for safety reasons. Students are permitted to be plugged in before and after school, and at lunch. Bluetooth speakers are NOT welcome at HMS. As the school does NOT mandate a bring your own device policy, students bring their devices at their own risk. The school is NOT responsible for any damage or loss. ELECTRONICS POLICY…

ATTENDANCE & SICK DAYS…

Rotation of a 2 day schedule – Day 1 & Day 2 Thursdays are days that are ‘locked in’ for tutorial Advisory is scheduled everyday as a 15 minute block TIMETABLE

Advisory is meant to provide students with a connection to an adult advocate who will support, encourage, nurture, and guide students through their middle school years. WHAT IS ADVISORY?

RTI stands for Response to Intervention. It is a strategy to ensure students learn the core essentials, and receive tutorials to address their learning needs. Within the RTI model, students will be supported with specific interventions through Student Services. The Student Services model will be changing next year, which will allow us to support students in their areas of need. WHAT IS RTI AND TUTORIALS?

At Hatzic Middle School we have excellent, dedicated, and caring support workers who will help guide all of our students through their middle years journey. ABORIGINAL SUPPORT…

HMS Hockey will be scheduled on Day 2 and will revolve around lunch time. Other sports that may be offered include: – Football, Track & Field, Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball, & Lacrosse EXTRA CURRICULAR
