The Savanna biome has a climate in which the temperatures outside range anywhere from 20°C (68°F) to 30°C (86°F). As you can imagine, the temperature here is generally nice throughout the year. The Savanna: Yearly Temperature Range

The Savanna biome has a climate where it gets anywhere from around 25 to 76 centimeters of precipitation each year. In the savanna, there is a season which could have anywhere from a 6-8 month wet, summer season and a 4-6 month dry, winter season. The Savanna: Yearly Precipitation

Some animals of the Savanna include elephants, zebras, horses, and giraffes. In the Savanna biome, many of these animals are herbivores because of the vast area of grasses. Many thrive in the rainy season but in the dry season, they usually migrate somewhere else. The dry season can cause fires due to drought. Fork-Tailed Forgoes travel towards fires and not away from them because they use the fires to find food. Animals migrate due to thirst and the competition for water between animals. Lions have adapted to the climate of the Savanna by having loose belly skin so that when it gets kicked in the stomach by prey, it has a lesser chance of injury. It also has rough skin so that it can peel its prey’s skin easily. The Savanna: Animals of the Savanna To see a picture of a few of the animals in the Savanna, see the next slide.

The Savanna is home to a good variety of plants that dominate the land. Some of these plants are just grasses. These grasses include Rhodes grass, red oats grass, star grass, lemon grass, and shrubs. Then there are only a few trees that live near lakes only. This is because the precipitation of this area is not enough to support very many trees. One type of tree is the Acacia tree, which is a very unusual tree because it’s shape is the outline of an umbrella. The leaves on this tree are very high up and are very tasty to the giraffes. Another type of tree is the Baobab tree, this tree can survive because it has adapted to let it deal with the dry conditions from the lack of precipitation. It stores water between the bark and insides of the tree. The Savanna: Plants of the Savanna

The Savanna’s location varies to the climate of the area. Some places where the Savanna occurs is at the Northern tip of Australia, Southeastern South America, Southern Asia, and Southern and towards the middle of Africa. The Savanna: Where is it?

The Savanna: Food Chain

The Savanna Biome is home to one of the largest herbivore diversities on the planet. The Savanna Biome is a Grassland near the equator. It is closer to the equator than Prairies are. The Savanna: Interesting Facts
