Types of Tissues and Their Functions

Skin and Muscle The functions of the skin are to protect the body from physical damage, too much heat and cold, the sun’s rays, chemicals, and bacteria. It regulates our temperature, and is our sense of touch. The functions of the muscles are to produce movement by pulling on bones, stabilize joints, keep us up right, and produce heat.

Nervous Tissue and Blood Tissue They are pathways from the brain that tell the other parts of the body what to do, react to stimuli, and stores knowledge. It carries food, water, and oxygen to the rest of the body. It carries waste away from cells, fights disease, helps maintain body temperature, and clots to stop bleeding

Connective Tissue, Bone and Cartilage They provide support to the body, aid in getting food to cells, and waste out. They provide support to the body, shape and protection of organs and they produce blood. They provide cushion to joints, holds bones together, and becomes bone as you grow.

Xylem tissue carries water and minerals throughout the plant and provides the plant support. Phloem is tissue that carries sugars (especially sucrose) and other nutrients from the leaves to cells for consumption or storage.
