MACERATA 2 nd -3 rd April 2009 European Union European Regional Development Fund PRoMPt Profile of the Region of Western Greece Area km 2, Population people, making it the fourth largest (in population) region in Greece. Administration Three Prefects, namely Achaia, Ilia and Aetoloakarnania, which are further divided to 72 Municipalities and 2 Communities. The largest Municipality is Patras, with a population of about inhabitants.

MACERATA 2 nd -3 rd April 2009 European Union European Regional Development Fund PRoMPt  The biggest part of the terrain is mountainous (45,3%) or hilly (25,6%), while only 29,1% consists of plains  Variety of landscapes, from alpine meadows to sandy beaches and a unique network of rivers and wetlands that support a wide range of wildlife (including golden eagles and vultures)  WGR is a modern communications and transport hub that connects Greece with the rest of Europe (country’s main gateway to Western Europe) Profile of the Region of Western Greece

MACERATA 2 nd -3 rd April 2009 European Union European Regional Development Fund PRoMPt 2nd WORKING PERIOD -1st SEMESTER 2009 WORKING GROUP 1 (WG1) Correct and on-time information and preparation of citizens to confront the outbreak of a fire risk assessment the applied monitoring system activities concerning the dissemination of information on the wildfires fighting activities organization awareness raising actions aimed at citizens in order to spread a culture of adequate prevention and to inform about behaviour rules, prohibitions and restrictions – information campaigns in schools of all levels, meetings between students and operators simulations at the local level and involvement of the population
