SAFETY IN THE SCIENCE LABORATORY
Read instructions before starting experiments; Follow all directions carefully
Don’t touch anything until instructed to do so;
Perform only those experiments authorized by the instructor;
Do not eat food,drink beverages or chew gum in the lab;
Absolutely no horseplay in the lab!

Dress properly during a lab; –Tie long hair back –No dangling jewelry –No loose, baggy clothing

Report any accident or injury to the instructor immediately;
If a chemical splashes on your skin, immediately flush with running water and notify instructor
When checking a chemical for odors, gently waft vapors towards nose; NOYES
Double check labels on chemical bottles Take only as much chemical as you need; Never return unused chemicals to their original containers;
When diluting acids always add the acid to the water; –“Do as you oughta – add acid to water”
Never handle broken glass with your bare hands; –Use a dust pan and brush –Place broken glass in glass disposal container
Never use chipped, cracked or dirty glassware; Never leave a lit burner unattended; When heating a substance in a test tube, never point the mouth of the test tube at yourself or others;
Never look down into a container that is being heated; Be careful – hot glass doesn’t look hot!
Never pipet by mouth! NO! YES!
