Young People – Old Problems?
Presentation transcript:

By Hara Mubashar

~ Identified 10 years ago ~ Was at first known as the “loathing of teenagers” ~ The media causes people to have Ephebiphobia the most, showing all the negative aspects like drinking, fighting, smoking, bullying, doing drugs, etc. ~ Others that tend to express their opinions of young adults being bad and untrustworthy are politicians and marketers. ~ Teachers and schools are encouraged to have metal detectors and things like that, showing they have no trust in teens. ~ This fear is most common and most effective in the Western World.

 Researchers have shown that this phobia, the fear of youth, actually affects the health of democracy. It also affects social, religious, and political aspects of people. It discriminates the young adults from the rest of the world.  There is a age gap and custom gap between teens and adults, causing the adults to think differently and not always being able to empathize, so this causes them not to trust the teens as much, therefore changing the teens views and changing each generation's thinking.  Governments consider young adults to be seen “primarily as threats - to persons, to institutions, to status quo.”  It is said that Ephebiphobia has caused some governments to lower age of criminal responsibility.  Academic people say this is all just commercial gain, the fear of young adults, from the media.  What some people think (and this is most likely it) is that Ephebiphobia is just caused by the stereotypical fear of adolescents.

 SYMPTOMS  A feeling of uncontrollable anxiety when you think about or are exposed to teenagers  The feeling that you must do everything possible to avoid teenagers  The inability to function normally because of your anxiety  Often, the knowledge that your fears are unreasonable or exaggerated but feeling powerless to control them  CURES  Self-hypnosis  Also you can search up Glenn Harrold, this dude who is a well experienced professional hypnotherapist and best-selling author. His hypnosis CDs, downloads and Apps have sold over 1,500,000 worldwide and are the UK’s best selling self-help audio titles of all time.
