Paint Industry – Process Description PRODUCTION OF WATER PAINTS 1

Paint Industry - Process Description PRODUCTION OF WATER PAINTS 1. DRY PAINT WEIGHING ENTRANCE: Tank trucks fill the tanks of dry paint. PIGMENTS AND TALCS WEIGHING: 7 endless tanks store the components will be weighted and added to the preparation. » Pigments dumping inside the tanks » Pigments weighing and dosage

» Solid matter is weighted and then impelled up to mixture tank. » The impulsing is realized by pressurizing the air from the corresponding compressors. » The material is thrown through a single pipe up to the destination (distance of 80m approximately). Paint Industry - Process Description PRODUCTION OF WATER PAINTS 2. AUTOMATIC LOADING OF PREPARATIONS » Tanks graphic » Detail of pigments scale » Throwing pipe of pigments

BINDERS: They are the needed resins to achieve that the paint is stuck to the treated surfaces. They must be added in the process. Paint Industry - Process Description PRODUCTION OF WATER PAINTS 2. AUTOMATIC LOADING OF PREPARATIONS » Tanks graphic » Detail of resins tanks

After adding the pigments, talcs and resins, the water is added where the products above mentioned will be diluted in the finishing diluters. 2. AUTOMATIC LOADING OF PREPARATIONS » Detail of finishing diluters Paint Industry - Process Description PRODUCTION OF WATER PAINTS

In the finishing diluters the mixture are diluted and milled. There is not a separated milling. a.Screw that dilutes the pigments, talcs, resins in the water. Paint Industry - Process Description PRODUCTION OF WATER PAINTS 3. HOMOGENIZING AND FINISHED OF PAINT LOTS » Data of finishing diluters » Detail of the diluters propellers 01 a b b.Scraper that separates the paint from the walls of the diluter.

In the finishing diluters it is possible to achieve the needed granulometry thanks to the gear wheel. 3. HOMOGENIZING AND FINISHED OF PAINT LOTS Paint Industry - Process Description PRODUCTION OF WATER PAINTS » Detail of the diluters propellers 02 » Finished blue paint mixture

The automatized transport bands allow the cans movement up to the filling positions, where 12 automatic volumetric systems can the production. 4. CANNING PROCESS OF PAINT LOTS » Canning line of water paints » Canning process detail Paint Industry - Process Description PRODUCTION OF WATER PAINTS

One industrial robot, integrated in an operating cell, allows realizing the palletizing process automatically. Paint Industry - Process Description PRODUCTION OF WATER PAINTS 5. PALLETIZING PROCESS » Palletizer robot

An industrial tintometric system allows the elaboration of mixtures in a fast and control way. Paint Industry - Process Description PRODUCTION OF WATER PAINTS 6. INDUSTRIAL VOLUMETRIC TINTOMETRY » Industrial volumetric tintometry » Tintometry machine

Paint Industry – Process Description PRODUCTION OF SOLVENT PAINTS 2

The great difference in this process is the milling realized with vertical and horizontal mills. In these mills, materials such as Zirconium are used to mill a first paste before arriving to the final granulating. The only use of the diluting is not enough. » The vertical mills are driven by variable speed drives » The horizontal mills are not driven by variable speed drives 2. PIGMENTS MILLING Paint Industry - Process Description PRODUCTION OF SOLVENT PAINTS

The diluters are different, since the way for obtaining the granulometry is also different (consider the previous milling stage). For this, there is not a gear wheel. But, the diluters are also driven by variable speed drives. Paint Industry - Process Description PRODUCTION OF SOLVENT PAINTS 3. HOMOGENIZING AND FINISHED OF PAINT LOTS » Detail of solvent diluter propeller » Finishing diluters for solvent paints

The transport bands are also automatized. Paint Industry - Process Description PRODUCTION OF SOLVENT PAINTS 4. CANNING PROCESS OF PAINT LOTS Even if the production is smaller, the control is also realized with variable speed drive. » Detail of canning process

Criteria of use for Power Electronics Equipments VARIABLE SPEED DRIVES & SOFTSTARTERS 3

The motors of pigments tanks dosage are controlled by Variable Speed Drives. Paint Industry CRITERIA OF USE FOR POWER ELECTRONICS EQUIPMENTS ACTUATORS FOR PIGMENTS TANKS Equipments recommended: » SD450 Series [ JUSTIFICATION FOR POWER ELECTRONICS EQUIPMENTS USE ] The variable speed drive allows reducing the speed in a control way at the ending of the weighing process, to put the required amount of pigment and guarantying the accuracy of the formula. Keeps a correct dosage in the pigment weighing. There are pigments that can change the formula if its weight is not the required one.

ACTUATORS FOR PRESSURIZING IMPULSING AIR The motors of pressurizing are controlled by Variable Speed Drives. Equipments recommended: » SD700 Series (low frequencies) » SD450 Series Depending on the mixture type will be impelled for each preparation, it is necessary to introduce air at more or less speed (there are some mixtures that are compressed). Specific pigments can become very abrasive, so that its transport can generate high friction. The variable speed drive allows regulating the ideal speed for the mixtures are not compacted. The drive will regulate the speed, and consequently, the generated fiction Paint Industry CRITERIA OF USE FOR POWER ELECTRONICS EQUIPMENTS [ JUSTIFICATION FOR POWER ELECTRONICS EQUIPMENTS USE ]

Paint Industry CRITERIA OF USE FOR POWER ELECTRONICS EQUIPMENTS ACTUATORS FOR DILUTERS TANKS The diluters are controlled by Variable Speed Drives. Equipments recommended: » SD700 Series » SD450 Series Relation rating / paint amount: » Diluter 50HP for 2.000kg. » Diluter 100HP for 5.000kg. » Diluter 270HP “1 shaft” for kg. [ JUSTIFICATION FOR POWER ELECTRONICS EQUIPMENTS USE ] Depending on the preparation, the needed production and the required finished (granulometry) it is necessary to mix at more or less speed. The variable speed drive allows controlling the equipment according to a lot of factors, such as the product amount to produce (it can realize first mixtures and then transfer to other diluters to finish).

Paint Industry CRITERIA OF USE FOR POWER ELECTRONICS EQUIPMENTS ACTUATORS FOR TRANSPORT BANDS OF CANNING PROCESS The transport bands are controlled by Variable Speed Drives. Ratings oscillate between 2 – 4 HP. Equipments recommended: » SD700 Series (low ratings) » SD450 Series » SD250 Series (low ratings) [ JUSTIFICATION FOR POWER ELECTRONICS EQUIPMENTS USE ] Allows the speed setting for more exhaustive control of the production. The production can be programmed as needed (for example, 1 can/minute or 14 cans/minute) and the speed will be set for a correct filling.

Paint Industry CRITERIA OF USE FOR POWER ELECTRONICS EQUIPMENTS ACTUATORS FOR VERTICAL MILLS The vertical mills are controlled by Variable Speed Drives. Equipments recommended: » SD700 Series (low ratings) » SD450 Series This equipments mill the paint paste by using fragments of materials such us Zirconium. With the speed increase, the temperature is also increased. This situation can generate changes in the products characteristics. The variable speed drives allow the speed setting according to the temperature for a control of products properties. [ JUSTIFICATION FOR POWER ELECTRONICS EQUIPMENTS USE ]
