Manga by: Brittany Dial 6 th period

 In Japan, everything is read, drawn, and written backwards  In America, the drawings, the story, and how it is read is left to right OR right to left. It’s all about preference.

 From Japanese kanji (old calligraphy) to English  From English to other countries like Asia and Europe  Caused by wide-spread popularity Love kanji To the English word ‘love’

Shoujo Cover  Shoujo (girls’ manga)  Shounen (action manga)  Kodomo (children’s manga)  Seijin (young adult male manga)  Josei (young adult female manga)  Seinen (adult male manga)

Maho Shoujo When an ordinary girl turns into an alter ego version of herself. From this: To this:  Aimed mainly at girls  A ‘love’ style manga  Dramatic or romantic  Sports related, gothic horror, science fiction, historical romance  Maho shoujo (magical girl) i.e.: Sailor Moon

 Mainly for boys, but girls and young adults have gotten into shounen  More themes than any other style of manga  Sports, light humor, demons, ninja, robot/mecha fighting (only some of the many

 Children- Kodomo manga  Girls- Shoujo manga/Maho manga  Boys/action- Shounen manga  Young adult males- Seijin manga  Young adult females- Josei manga  Adult men- Seinen manga

 Was formed in Japan, as manga was  In America, the style became more loose and relaxed  Some Americans try to stick to the “traditional” way  Traditional form has changed over the years  Other style have been developed due to personal taste  Everyone draws the same pose differently  Human and animal styles have changed with taste

Help With The Basics There are many books to help with certain things. Such as: -body basics -page set-up -animals -anthros (animal- humans) -characters for certain styles (shoujo characters, shounen characters, ect.)

 Some draw manga purely for fun  Others may try to make their own  There are various things you need to make your own -your own style or something you’ve learned -a story -characters - YEARS OF PRACTICE! Unless it’s just for fun.  Some draw their own characters and story  Others may get someone else to did either one for them
