1.5 Interpersonal Skills Demonstrate interpersonal skills and describe there effect on a group/team

Interpersonal Skills *Leadership *communication *social responsibility *cooperation *feedback *inclusiveness *fair play *encouragement *negotiation *problem solving *mediation *motivation *conflict resolution Which 4 do you think are most important in your main sport, why?

Leadership Being responsible for a group and allowing them to develop to their potential by getting all people to work together

Leadership e.g * talking to the group about play’s * doing substitutions * leading a warm up * sorting out positions

Communication Using words/actions to let others know how you feel or what you want e.g *pointing players in the right direction *calling plays *team talks

Communication Non-verbal: What is seen/felt i.e gestures, pointing, posture, body language Verbal: what is spoken/said i.e tone, volume and actual message

Effective communication Active listening: not just waiting for your turn to speak nor interjecting Asking open questions: a question that requires a detailed response e.g why do we need to move this way?

Effective Communication Feedback: information given about a performance (S.P.I.U) Specific: exactly what needs to change Positive: should be said in a positive way

Effective communication Immediate: should be given as soon as the performance has finished Understood: must be understood by the person receiving it

Effective communication Assertiveness: communicating in a clear, direct way to get your voice heard

Assertiveness (DESC) Describe: e.g I feel upset that I never get much game time Explain: e.g I have only been on the field for half a game when everyone else has played a game and a half

Assertiveness Specify: e.g I have worked as hard as everyone else in training so think I deserve to play as much as everyone else. Consequences: e.g if everyone plays the same amount it is the fairest result as everyone has done the same amount of training

Social Responsibility Demonstrating fair play, including all team members and getting involved e.g *admitting that you got touched *passing the ball to everyone *all players involved as much as possible

Cooperation Being able to work with other people regardless of gender, race or ability e.g *getting involved at all times *running hard even if not touching the ball *shared effort

Feedback Guidance from a player or coach on your performance or technique to try and improve e.g *talking about technique for catching a ball *talking about what has worked well

Inclusiveness Allowing all players to have equal opportunities to be involved in the game e.g *all players touch the ball every 2 sets *not skipping a player because you think they might drop it

Encouragement Using positive words to lift a players self-esteem and belief in themselves e.g *one player complimenting another *if a player drops a ball saying “its ok, don’t worry”

Fairplay Demonstrating a willingness to play by the rules and accept decisions e.g *telling the truth if touched *not hassling the ref about a decision

Conflict Resolution All sports create conflict between players, conflict can be resolved by: *Problem solving *Negotiation *Mediation

Problem Solving Brain storming ways to deal with certain situations to over come a problem / issue e.g * learning to read opposition tactics * team talk about how to beat a team * working out good drills to help improve skills

Negotiation Coming to an agreement by listening to different points of view and then compromising to get a solution e.g *deciding on playing positions *discussing team plays *voting for a captain

Mediation One person/group deciding on the best course of action for others who are disagreeing e.g *one player settling an argument between other players *players not being on field at same time if tension

Motivating others Enthusiastic Lead by example Use positive feedback Be prepared for a training Variety of activities Knowledge of the activity

Team roles *Coach: teach skills/tactics, manage players, motivate, communication, feedback

Team roles *Captain: leadership, negotiation, problem solving, communication

Team roles *Referee: communication, conflict resolution, problem solving

Team roles *Manager: Communication, leadership, conflict resolution

Team roles *Junior player: communication, encouragement, social responsibility, fair play, inclusiveness, cooperation

Team roles *Senior player: communication, leadership, encouragement, fairplay

Assessment questions Describe: give an account of something ‘Say what happened’ e.g James told me to stand in the gap

Assessment Questions Explain: ‘Say why you think it happened’ to make clear the reason for something ‘Say why you think it happened’ e.g He did this so our defense was in a line to stop the other team breaking our line

Assessment questions Evaluate: to determine the significance of something ‘Did what happened have a positive/ negative impact, why/why not’ e.g this made our defense hard to break because we all knew our roles and we worked hard to play well as a team.

Last night’s dinner What you had for dinner last night: Describe: I had chicken with vegetables and a sauce Explain: This is meat from the poultry variety and the vegetables were cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli and tomatoes, the sauce was a spicy chilli sauce which was over all the meal Evaluate: The meat was a little over cooked because it was tough to chew but the vegetables were great because they were steamed and still very flavorsome. The sauce made the meal because it made the chicken taste nicer. On the whole a good meal
