Research Councils UK RCUK ORCID Update Louise Grant Project Manager, Gateway to Research

Intention Research Councils have agreed: to capture a valid ORCID Identifier, where one exists, for all researchers supported by Research Council funding to do this as early as possible in its engagement with individual researchers and/or the research funding process

Benefits Enabling the capture of ORCIDs is an essential first step that will, over time, yield a wide range of benefits Identification of publications authored by RCUK-funded researchers link other research outputs to grant funding link researcher (including doctoral students) data between RC databases and others held by e.g. HESA (students and staff record) and the British Library (EThOS Electronic Thesis database). identify which other funders are supporting RCUK-funded researchers

Challenges Changes are required to systems that are outside of RCUK’s controls Councils have a number of competing priorities for system changes and there are currently other higher business priorities

Questions Thank you
