Curriculum Matters
Objectives To enhance results of pupils in other subject areas (perform well academically) To build pupil’s love for reading To improve pupils’ reading competency To build pupils’ comprehension skills
Teachers will : set up reading group centres in their classrooms. keep running records. build a profile of pupils as readers.
The reading programme will be conducted and assessed by our trained teachers. It will be conducted during 3 English periods for 1.5 hrs.
What you can do to help your child … Promote the love of books to your child Take time out to read/listen (storybooks/magazines/poems/newspaper) with/to your child and discuss current issues Visit the library regularly Use ‘real-life’ examples to engage your child in conversations with the use of books, articles such as ‘healthy lifestyle or favourite food’
What you can do to help your child … Show interest in your child’s progress in Mathematics and be involved as a parent. Ensure that your child knows the multiplication tables very well. Test your child to check. Encourage your child to do his/her own work and corrections. Remind him/her not to copy anyone’s work. Relate Mathematics to real-life situations by engaging your child in meaningful and fun activities Teach concepts using things around us Practise, Practise & Practise
