1884 Start of business training in Buende by Mr Heinrich Rumbke: 2 evenings per week Target group: employees of the predominant cigar-making industry Subjects: bookkeeping, customs formalities 1893 General introduction of schools for further education in Germany Target group: young people at the age of 14 – 18 years Reason: keeping young people away from socialist ideas between leaving school and military service Aim: youths should become the „emperor‘s willing subjects“ From the beginnings to World War I A journey in time – History of the EGB

After today A journey in time – History of the EGB Today: division of vocational education into 2 parts Full-time students aiming for a higher degree and after that for an apprenticeship or a place at university Part-time students who serve an apprenticeship with a company and who attend our school just for about 12 lessons a week in order to pass their final exams

Self-organized learning (SOL): Students are given fixed aims and prepared materials Teachers organize the learning arrangements and change their role into learning advisors Students work according to their individual needs and at their individual speed No 45-minute lessons in German, economics, English, maths (plus others) Regular alternation of individual work, pair work, and group work Opening of the new SOL-storey of our school Today A journey in time – History of the EGB
