Cassandra Dove, MSPH Jackie Hawkins, BS Michael Jones, MSN, RN—University Mississippi Medical Center—Healthy Linkages The Congregational Health Nurse— Promotes wellness and disease prevention in the faith community by: · Organizing health fairs, · Health screenings · Health promotion education · Enlisting members’ participation in ministry · Visiting/communicating with members with health concerns to assist in referral or education · Offering training and affirmation to caregivers and families · Coordinating a church care team for persons with long-term illnesses to assist caregivers · Providing opportunities for outreach through support groups including non- church community · Educating the congregation on moral/ethical health issues This training is funded by the Mississippi Delta Health Collaborative, Mississippi State Department of Health, Office of Health Promotion & Health Equity, a Cooperative Agreement—5U50DP with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Mississippi State Department of Health Educational Partner of the Church Health Center (CHC) 34 Contact hours is awarded upon successful completion of this activity (attended all 4 full days). Foundations of Congregational Health Nursing This course is designed to prepare registered nurses for promotion of holistic and wholistic congregational health through mind body, and spirit as God intends. Parish nursing is defined as “a unique, specialized practice of professional nursing which focuses on the promotion of health within the context of the values, beliefs, and practices of a faith community... Arrange health promotion activities for congregants across age span and socioeconomic groups.
