Surveys and Data Data sources for secondary transition – Public information – Private information – Exit and Follow Up Surveys Return rates and survey completion strategies Conversations about data – Making sense of the data – Program improvement

Public Data

Cohort Information Cohort Guide Enrollment Codes Special Education Codes – Status Codes

Cohort Document And Special Education Codes

Status Codes-Special Education Records The following codes are entered in the status field in the special education record (Maintain Special Education Services Detail screen) for special education students ages 14 through 22 exiting special education. An exit date also must be entered. All codes are required unless indicated as optional. For purposes of the Special Education Exit Report, all students ages 14+ who exited special education from July 1 through June 30 must be reported as one of the following: 35, 40, 50, 70, 75, 80 or 90. The exit report is an unduplicated report.

Where can I find the graduation cohort data for schools in my district? The graduation cohort data are available in the WVEIS NCLB Private Data. The cohort links are available in the upper right hand quadrant on both the principal and county Private Data Sites.

Private School and District Data Why? How might the data be useful? How might special education be involved?

County Links SPECIFIC

High School Principal Link

High School County Select cohort of interest. Cohorts are labeled here by the data year not by the year used to determine AYP. For example, the 2011 cohort is based upon data from students who entered ninth grade for the first time in school year and were projected to graduate four years later during school year

As illustrated in the sample on next slide, principals have access to the cohort list by student name, WVEIS number and other demographic variables. Enrollment and registration codes will be available in addition to a column delineating on time graduation status. Five-year graduates and students receiving modified diplomas will be flagged for administrator convenience.
