of 7 LESSON #9 DRAWING DISPLAY OPTIONS - ZOOM, VIEW, MODEL and PAPER SPACE BLIPS, REDRAW, REGEN, DRAW ORDER What are the AUTOCAD display commands? You can view a specific portion of your drawing using the Autocad display commands. The ZOOM command allows you to enlarge or reduce the amount of the drawing displayed. What are MODEL SPACE and PAPER SPACE? Display functions allow you to work in model space or paper space. Model space is used for drawing and designing, while Paper space is used for plotting. What is a blip? A blip is a small cross that is displayed when a point is picked on the screen. Turning the BLIPMODE off affects the current drawing and will not display the blips.

of 7 What are the REDRAWN and REGEN commands? Selecting the Redraw command from the View menu bar simply refreshes the current screen. When curved edges appear as straight segments using the Regen command will smooth the curves and regenerate the screen. Regen recalculates all the drawing object coordinates and regenerates the current screen. What is the Zoom command? The ability to magnify an area on your drawing allows you to create extremely small detailed objects and designs. The Zoom command contains several options that are especially helpful when getting close to your work.

of 7 What are the Zoom Options? The Zoom Toolbar contains several magnifying options and is also part of a list in the View Menu bar. The Zoom Window, Zoom Extents, Zoom All and Zoom Previous choices are the most used Zoom command choices. Knowing the keyboard shortcuts for Zooming is useful while working in your drawing. They are: ZOOM WINDOW, Z enter key, W enter key ZOOM EXTENTS, Z enter key, E enter key ZOOM ALL, Z enter key, A enter key ZOOM PREVIOUS, Z enter key, P enter key The Zoom Toolbar will be part of the DRAWING DISPLAY OPTIONS presentation.

of 7 What is the Realtime Zoom Option command? Realtime zooming allows you to see your work move on the screen as you zoom. It is the quickest and easiest method for adjusting the magnification of drawings on the screen. By depressing the enter key twice within the graphic area will display the Realtime zoom icon. The mouse when dragged along the screen while holding the left mouse button will magnify the drawing screen image. Right-clicking the mouse within the graphic area will display the short cut cursor menu permitting the selection of the zoom realtime icon.

of 7 What is the Realtime Pan command? The PAN command allows the CAD OPERATOR to move around the drawing without changing the magnification of the present zoom factor. You are able to view detail that lie just outside the edges of the displayed screen. The REALTIME PAN command allows you to see the drawing move on the screen as you pan.It is the quickest and easiest method for adjusting the view around the drawing on the screen. The command may be selected from the View pull- down menu, cursor menu or by typing PAN and then depressing the enter key on the keyboard. The PAN commands are identified by HAND icons on toolbars and menus. How are Scroll Bars used? The scroll bars found at the bottom and to the right of the drawing area can also be used to PAN the display.

of 7 How is the View Toolbar useful in displaying my drawing? Viewing your drawing in any orthographic and isometric view is easily done by using the View Toolbar and selecting any of the icons. This tool bar is especially useful when working with 3D SOLIDS to view the object from any of the preset orthographic and isometric views. The preset orthographic and isometric View commands can also be selected in the 3D Views cascading menu in the View pull-down menu. What are transparent display commands? A transparent command temporarily interrupts the active command. After the transparent command is completed, the command that was interrupted is resumed. Many display commands are transparent including REDRAW, PAN and several ZOOM options.

of 7 How are Model Space and Paper Space used? Model space can be thought of as the space where you draw and design in Autocad. The area that is Black and having the standard UCS Icon is Model Space. At the lower right corner of the Model Space just below the UCS Icon you will see a darken MODEL tab indicating that you are in Model Space. Paper Space is a space you use to lay out a drawing to be plotted. When you select the layout tab which is next to the model tab you enter PAPER SPACE. The Icon for Paper Space is different from that of Model Space. What is the DRAW ORDER command? The DRAW ORDER command is used to position images one on top of another. It is useful to move an image to the top of another when it is displayed below that image.
