Presentation transcript:

Turning challenges into opportunities What`s our role in our country`s future? Development Perspectives is a Drogheda based NGO and charity Vision Our vision of the world is one where people live in peace with each other, in harmony with nature, free from the shackles of hunger and poverty and who are willing to work and co-operate with each other to bring about an equitable, just and sustainable world. Mission Our mission is to actively involve people in learning about and then tackling social, political, environmental and economic challenges through an educational process in local and global communities.

Einstein once remarked that “Insanity was doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results”. He also said, “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them”. “Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate but powerful beyond measure”. (Marianne Williamson) Issues relating to power/responsibility and locus of control. The importance of imagination/curiosity/creativity Serious challenges – Energy / Food Security / Global Warming / Inequality / Water / Conflict / Poverty / Greed

In Summary, Whose responsibility is the future? “If not me, who? If not now, when?” (Mikhael Gorbachev) My commitment – Development Perspectives ( Huge untapped Learning Potential Humans are teleological – We need a vision of society, which we can contribute to. Without a vision, getting there becomes problematic.
