Spanish 4H is a higher level course that will continue your study of Spanish. In this course you will expand your knowledge of the Spanish language through vocabulary and grammatical structures. Also, you will explore interesting concepts through the use of the AP Spanish Language and Culture Themes. You will be exposed to a variety of authentic resources including newspaper articles, magazines, podcasts, radio and television reports, and literature from the Spanish speaking world.

LA TAREA Students will receive homework assignments three-four times per week on average. These assignments will be short and are designed to assess and reinforce skills and concepts. Practicing vocabulary and grammar at home will ensure the students’ success in Spanish class. NO late homework will be accepted. Homework will be worth 15% of the final grade.

CLASSWORK & PARTICIPATION Participation will be worth 5% and will be assessed every 10 weeks. Classwork is work that is completed and collected during class. This is worth 5% of the marking period average.

LOS EXAMENES Y PRUEBAS Tests will generally be given at the end of each unit/chapter. They will be based on topic vocabulary, grammar, and culture within that unit. There will be many opportunities for review in class and study guides will always be provided. Tests will be worth 30% of the final grade. Quizzes may be announced or unannounced and given at different times throughout the units to see how we are doing on particular topics (about one per week). Quizzes will be worth 20% of the final grade.

TMM LANGUAGE SOFTWARE TMM (Tell Me More) is on-line independent language program that you will be expected to use throughout the year. You will be required to complete one learning path/lesson every 5 weeks. TMM will count as a quiz grade and be worth 20% of the final grade.

LOS PROYECTOS The projects are designed to asses students in a different manner. They will be related to the topics that are being currently covered in class and will vary from individual to group work. Projects will be worth 25% of the final grade.

JOURNALS Also, each 10 weeks you will be graded on your journals that will include many different activities. Journal Sections: (Diarios, Tareas, Vocabulario Personal) Journals will count as a project grade and be worth 25% of the final grade.

WHAT IS MCC DUAL CREDIT? Dual credit is the opportunity to earn college credit during your high school career. You can earn 5 COLLEGE CREDITS this year in Spanish. (Spa 103/113) The cost is only $44 per credit or $220 per semester (plus a technology/records fee). You must complete both the MCC registration form and the residency form on-line to enroll. You will take final exams generated by the MCC professors and a few students will be selected to have a speaking exam with a MCC Spanish professor.

SPANISH HONOR SOCIETY The HF-L "El Camino de Santiago de Compostela" Chapter was established by the HF-L LOTE Department in March The motto of our chapter is "Paso a Paso.“ New members are inducted each March with a formal ceremony. Minimum Requirements for Application: Students must be enrolled in a level 4 or level 5 language class. Students must have a 92% cumulative average in LOTE. Seniors that are members and are currently in a LOTE class will wear a red honor's cord and be recognized at graduation.

COSAS IMPORTANTES Use Spanish in class as much as possible! If you don’t understand something I am saying in Spanish, ask in Spanish! Respect your classmates and Señor Roberts and do not talk when others are talking. Always use your resources before asking Señor. If you are absent from class, it is YOUR responsibility to make-up work. Find a way to study that works for you! No cell phones in class. If we end class early, do not line up at the door! If you don’t understand something, PLEASE ASK! Feel free to me or let me know you want to stay after school. Tutors will be available for those interested. Check School Tool to see current class average. Use the class website and other on-line resources.

TIPS TO LEARNING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE To become fluent in a new language it will take many years of patience and hard work! Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Making mistakes is how you learn best! Study Daily! Use the class website. Speak and write Spanish whenever you can. Read Spanish whenever you can find something written in the language. Listen to Spanish on the radio and TV.

LA CLASE How should you enter room 234? What can you find in room 234? Where are the materials/resources you will need throughout the year?
