Arkansas has seen 10 Federally Declared Disasters since February : 1as of June 1 st 1 due to Severe Storms and Flooding Arkansas has also seen 8 state disasters since 2008 affecting a total of 45 counties. 2008: 5 Total 3 due to Tornadoes, Severe Storms and Flooding 1 due to Hurricane Gustav: Severe Storms and Flooding 1 due to Tropical Storm Ike: Severe Storms and Flooding 2009: 4 Total 1 due to a Severe Winter Storm 1 due to Severe Storms, Tornadoes and Flooding 2 due Severe Storms and Tornadoes

ADEM’s Role in Disaster Preparedness Coordinate information & resources with local, state & federal entities before, during and after a disaster

Disasters occur at the local level and communications flow should be to the local emergency manager who has access to the closest resources. Local EM/Chief Elected Official after declaring a disaster can request State resources through SEOC Communications Flow

Communications Flow Cont. State resources are overwhelmed – ADEM contacts the following for supplemental resources − FEMA – for federal government assets Requires a State Declaration − EMAC – Mutual Aid with other states IERSP Pre-scripted requests − Private Sector – Donations and Purchase of commodities and Services − Non Governmental Organizations – PNP’s
