BODY MOVEMENTS MUSCLES ARE ATTACHED TO BONE OR CONNECTIVE TISSUE AT NO LESS THAN 2 POINTS ORIGIN – ATTACHED TO THE IMMOVABLE OR LESS MOVABLE BONE INSERTION – ATTACHED TO THE MOVABLE BONE DURING CONTRACTION THE INSERTION MOVES TOWARD THE ORIGIN
TYPES OF BODY MOVEMENTS FLEXION – DECREASES ANGLE BETWEEN BONES EXTENSION – INCREASES ANGLE BETWEEN BONES HYPEREXTENSION – GREATER THAN 180 DEGREES
ABDUCTION – MOVE AWAY FROM THE MIDLINE ADDUCTION – MOVE TOWARD MIDLINE
ROTATION – MOVEMENT OF BONE AROUND A LONGITUDINAL AXIS CIRCUMDUCTION – PROXIMAL END STATIONARY WHILE DISTAL END MOVES IN A CIRCLE
Types of Muscles Prime mover – responsible for movement in muscle group Antagonist- oppose or reverse a movement When a prime mover is active its antagonist is relaxed ex: biceps and triceps

How much thought and planning did it take to accomplish the movement/action once you had decided to engage in it?
Imagine that the portions of your brain responsible for coordination of muscular movement are not functional. Now to achieve any movement at all you must think about what specific muscle you must contract to move your body and when you must relax it in order to allow proper movement
When instructed will get into groups of about 3 (NOT RIGHT NOW) Someone in your group will select an index card that has one of the previously mentioned actions/motions Do not destroy the index cards as I will be re-collecting them.
On a blank sheet of paper you will give step by step instructions on how to perform this movement by listing the muscles that must be contracted and when they must be relaxed in the proper sequence to achieve this movement. In your instructions identify the origin and insertion of the muscle Assume that the individual is starting in correct anatomical position.
EXAMPLE: Cover mouth Contract biceps brachii Contract Teres major
Do NOT write the movement you are describing, simply give the step by step instructions on what muscles must be contracted and in what order they must be contracted in order to achieve this action.
Go ahead and get into groups Get a red book I will come around to give you a card List of muscles and their movements start on Pg 296
You I will now collect the instructions and hand them out randomly to another group who will be acting them out and determining the action you gave instructions for The group receiving the instructions should list what movement is produced by the contraction of each muscle given to them in the instructions.
