LO:You will learn to classify angles as acute, obtuse, right, or straight.

What is an angle? Two lines (or rays) that share the same endpoint form an angle. The point where the rays intersect is called the vertex (or corner) of the angle. The two rays are called the sides of the angle.

Here are some examples of angles.

We can identify an angle by using a point on each ray and the vertex We can identify an angle by using a point on each ray and the vertex. The angle below may be identified as angle ABC or as angle CBA; you may also see this written as ABC or as CBA. The vertex point is always in the middle.

Angle Measurements We measure the size of an angle using degrees. Here are some examples of angles and their degree measurements.

How to draw an angle Next slide

Step 1 Get a protractor Next slide

Step 2 Put 3 dots Here Here Here Next slide

Here Here If you are measuring OR drawing and the second dot is on the RIGHT you ALWAYS use the inside scale. Next slide

RIGHT INSIDE ----- LEFT OUTSIDE Next slide

Step 3 Move your protractor Next slide

Step 4 Get a ruler Next slide

draw 1 line along the bottom Step 5 draw 1 line along the bottom Next slide

Step 6 And 1 line along the side Next slide

Now you need to draw the last line Step 7 Now you need to draw the last line There Next slide

Now you are ready Next slide

LO: To draw angles A I don’t understand this idea at all and need to work again on this unit of work. B I have some understanding but I need more practice. C I understand this idea fully. End of slide show

Acute Angles An acute angle is an angle measuring between 0 and 90 degrees. The following angles are all acute angles.

Obtuse Angles An obtuse angle is an angle measuring between 90 and 180 degrees. The following angles are all obtuse.

Right Angles A right angle is an angle measuring 90 degrees. The following angles are both right angles.

Straight Angle A straight angle is 180 degrees.

The correct answer will be on the following slide!! GAME TIME! The object of the game is to be the first to raise your hand and correctly name what type of angle you see. The correct answer will be on the following slide!! Good luck!
