Status of Women Jeopardy WorkFamilyPolicyViolenceLeadership

Women earn 59% of what men earn.

In the corporate world, the majority of women work in middle management and below.

More women work in education, health, administration, arts, and sales and service than men.

Women and men who have started families through birth or adoption are entitled to this benefit.

In 1978, our group from Twillingate challenged the denial of Unemployment Insurance benefits and won.

Before this act was passed, women had no guarantee they would receive any share of property acquired together during their marriage.

In cases of separation or divorce, this is used to cover certain costs in the family. However I am often in arrears leaving women in poverty.

Women are disproportionately represented in one type of family – 82% to 18%.

Women provide two- thirds of the unpaid labour in Canada. Most is childcare, elder care and house work carried out after paid work.

Beginning in 2001, statisticians noted a new trend in women’s living conditions.

Advocates use this proportion to ensure critical mass.

I am used to assess a variety of policies, approaches and practices to ensure inclusiveness and sensitivity to women’s experience.

Employers may choose to advance women or other populations with a history of discrimination when they have two or more candidates with equal experience, skills, and education.

In the mid to late 20 th century, this rule was used to re-assess women’s eligibility for social assistance.

In 1967, Canada’s PM Trudeau said “the state has no business in the bedrooms of the nation” to describe this event.

Despite awareness and education, women are still more likely to be victims of these crimes.

This myth about violence persists to this day despite evidence.

The law used to have one term to describe this crime against women, now it has several.

Violence against women in intimate relationships has been called many things, reflecting the changes in our understanding.

This campaign was started in response to a traumatic event targeting women for being feminists.

Our province made leadership history in December 2010.

Late in the 20 th century, my literary works became very popular and I am now known as the province’s first published novelist.

We were responsible for challenging a significant concept in law regarding women’s status.

I became known for my work on behalf of women in the justice field and was the province’s first female justice minister.

I was the first woman elected to the Provincial House of Assembly and in 2010, I received a special honour.
