5 What about Brazil? 2010: Brazil won 19 awards at Intel ISEF In 2010, the Brazilian government launched a financial support to science fairs… … but there was still no program to equip students and teacher with skills to work on a research-based pedagogy.

6 How do we do it? -Regional Coordinators Program -Local Initiatives of Science Education -Participation in Science Fairs

7 Regional Coordinators Program 40 Regional Coordinators 30 Cities 16 States 507% increase in the number of applicants ( ) Goal: Preparing a national network of capacitated volunteers who are able to create local communities of scientific education

8 Local Initiatives of Science Education Regional Coordinators work regionally in schools, organizing meetings to stimulate students and teachers to get involved with Science. In 2014, we were able to reach 1845 students.

9 Participation in Science Fairs Our goal is to stimulate students to continue working on their projects, by providing them with awards which have significant repercussions in their communities In 2014 we participated in 14 science fairs and awarded about 200 students.

10 How do we transform students in researchers? Available online at: scientiaprima.incentivoaciencia.com.br Brazil’s first and only journal dedicated to the publication of research reports written by young Brazilian scientists.

16 Summarizing… -Seja Cientista: Stimulating students to start and continue doing research -Preparing of a team of qualified volunteers -Commissioning volunteers to go and impact schools -Stimulating students to keep working on their projects -Scientia Prima: Transforming students in researchers by making their research reports available to the scientific community.
