History Temple University was founded in 1884, chartered as Temple College in 1888 and incorporated as Temple University in In 1965, by the Act of the Legislature of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Temple University became a state-related institution in the Commonwealth System of Higher Education. It is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Temple University is the 36th largest university in the United States. It also has the third largest professional (law, dentistry, medicine, pharmacy, and podiatric medicine) program in the country.

Temple Territory Temple University has over 30,000 students. Temple's Main Campus covers 114 acres in North Philadelphia. The Health Sciences Center, which includes Temple University Hospital, the School of Medicine, School of Dentistry, School of Pharmacy, and College of Allied Health Professions, is located two miles north of the Main Campus. The Ambler Campus is situated on 186 acres of rolling fields in suburban Montgomery County. Temple has two other Philadelphia area campuses--The Tyler School of Art and Temple University Center City, which also offers continuing education and cultural programs as well as academic courses. The University opened its Harrisburg Center in The Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine, formerly the Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine (PCPM), joined Temple University on July 1, 1998.
