Music Alex, I'm Don Freund, Composition Professor in the School of Music. I'm envious of the title of your Distinguished Faculty Research Lecture: Exotic Particles and the Confinement of Quarks. I haven't got a clue what it means, but it conjures up all kinds of musical ideas, so I'd like to go ahead and steal the title and write a orchestra or wind ensemble by that name. Don Freund I plan to start writing the piece now and finish it this summer, and have it played at the Music School next year. If you have serious objections, let me know and I'll go a different direction - or at least change the title. If not, I'll go with it and let you know if it turns into music.

Meeting at NSF with DOE May 18, 2004 CLEO-c CESR GlueX JLab CLEO-c and GlueX will map gluonic excitations (glueballs and hybrids) with unprecedented statistics. These states are predicted by LQCD. In order to identify these states there need to be developments in amplitude analysis and the underlying phenomenology and new computational tools to handle extremely large data sets.

Earlier meeting and proposals Follow on to a similar meeting 18 mos ago with many of same people. That resulted in two proposals (NSF-ITR & NSF-PIF)

This meeting and conclusions NSF: Marvin Goldberg, Brad Keister and Jim Whitmore DOE: Sid Coons and Brad Tippens Cornell: Dan Riley, Anders Ryd and Maury Tigner Indiana: Alex Dzierba, Geoffrey Fox and Adam Szczepaniak Carnegie Mellon: Curtis Meyer JLab: David Richards and Tony Thomas Conclusion: A workshop by experts to comment on the goals and techniques of CLEO-c/GlueX to result in a whitepaper followed by a proposal
