August 2012 Updates: Hahgoot’s Updates, part 1
Hahgoot gets her homework from me, and her teacher checks it. She has been exempt from spelling lists as she has been spelling words like “geodesic dome” and Australian animal species her teacher didn’t know existed, so no need to work on that any more... In math she can do multiplication in her head to 5X5 on her own.
As a Pre-Sukkoth activity Hahgoot got to try cutting Mexican paper cuts decorations.
For her last spelling assignment she got a list of dwellings from around the world, researched a photo and a definition for each one using Wikipedia, and then sorted them (she had to come up with her own sorting categories). After trying various options, she decided to sort by cold to hot (the weather at the location of the dwelling, so igloo and yurt would be the coldest and an underground home from Coober Paddy would be the hottest).
Lately Hahgoot has been a big Enid Blyton fan, and enjoyed both “The enchanted wood” series and “the famous five” series.

Hahgoot had a big task for research, following her studies about the Olympics at school: She interviewed her Grandma Jaike in Hebrew via Skype about her experience as Israel’s Javelin throwing record holder for 27 years and as a very active participant in the Maccabiah games (the “Jewish Olympics” held in Israel). Then she translated the interview into English!
My mum was thrilled to be part of Hahgoot’s homework and proudly showed off her medals (she has 15 gold medals!), trophy and shield and explained about the different emblems (top row).
My dad contributed with a “professional” photo shoot – Thanks for all the support!
A very exciting day this month was Hahgoot’s big trip to Taronga Zoo with Years 1 and 2 (it’s an hour and a half on the bus each way!) The trip was fantastic but very tiring. Here she is looking excited with her small backpack on, standing next to the cheeky monkey In our next presentation: Hahgoot’s updates, part 2, Which is about some extra studies
