What is “Star for Night”? It is a celebration of children’s talent A different event for children to express their talent and abilities in a way non identified in core subjects An opportunity for gifted and talented children A fun event for the community
The aims of the event To raise confidence in children To develop them as leaders To celebrate success To encourage children to positively contribute to the life of school To share success with parents and carers To formally recognise talent Encourage children to cultivate individuality and artistic flair
The background Inspired by “Wakefield has got talent” event Art and music co-ordinator released to create an action plan Launch of the “Star for a night” Sign up sheets for auditions Flyer created to display key information Information cascaded to staff, children, parents and carers
Next step Awards for runners up and winners ordered Extra purchases for successful evening in place (balloon release kit, wireless microphones, trophy, medals etc.) Stage layout panned Date and details published in newsletter and on the website
The auditions The auditions took place on 9 th February Hall set formally Mats attached with X in the middle Judges table set formally Acts were recorded on tablets 2min auditions for 58 applicants Each act to make a short speech to introduce themselves
Shortlisting Selection based on strength and skills Feedback given The acts selected were given a mentor Mentors are a variety of adults in school Mentors are meeting regularly with their act Encourages team work and stresses importance of feedback
On the night Family members to be sold tickets which will include a drink and a snack Stage and hall decorated to reflect the “Star for a Night” theme 4 judges to decide on winners of the competition

Costs Costs are relatively minimal and include the following: Printing costs Purchases of microphones and confetti Balloons Decorating items
The next stage: We are interested in other schools taking part in their own Star for a Night A Pyramid Finals at Minsthorpe in June after SATs (2016). Year 7 teachers to see the range of talent coming to Minsthorpe Increase collaborative work between schools Provide a system to track G&T pupils Better understanding of the children’s talent
