Attribute: the characters are real people who once lived during that time period. Attribute: the events of this story are all real have actually happened one time in the past.

Attribute: Setting makes this book a Narrative Nonfiction “Whether as advisors to the south Vietnamese army or as combat troops directly engaged in fighting the Viet Cong and the north Vietnamese army, U.S. soldiers served in Vietnam from 1959 to 1975, making the war twice as long as the war of independence”(6). “on January 20, 1968, a marine reconnaissance patrol made contact with North Vietnamese Army (NVA) troops”(70). “during the monsoon season of early 1969, the Communists began stock piling huge stores of weapons, ammunition, and supplies”(92). Attribute: This novel is a mystery because the main character must solve the problem, or terrible things will happen. “Ngo Dinh Diem became the first president of democratic south Vietnam in 1955 but through a short time he got assassinated after he got killed a power struggle between the military leader in South Vietnam occurred over the next 2 years, during which 9 governments came and went” (22). “U.S. army soldier Gerry Schooler recalled a painful discovery during the Tet Offensive when he and another soldier were ordered to search for Viet Cong in a row of ruined homes, in one house, “in the very back, under this table, we found these 2 kids, obviously brother and sister, about 5, embraced, no doubt because they were so frightened. EVALUATION: Is 10,00 days of thunder a good example of a narrative nonfiction? Philip Caputo a prize winning journalist did an outstanding job in his book 10,000 days of thunder. He describes all the real events and the exact dates and people real names in this story. It is like actually being there in the war and what the people are going through. Its crazy to see the stress and terror the men went through they might have been trained to fight but everyone was terrified.
