The Vietnam Veterans Memorial was dedicated on November 13, 1982 A 21-year-old undergraduate at Yale University, Maya Ying, Lin, born in Athens, Ohio in 1959, designed the memorial The memorial is constructed from two 75-meter-long black granite walls. The granite came from Bangalore, India. The names of 58,253 Americans killed or missing in action in the Vietnam War are engraved on the Wall. Reading one name every 2 seconds nonstop would take approximately 32 hours.
