Deforestation : A Serious Problem

Deforestation means changing forest land into farming or building land. Deforestation :

The number one cause of deforestation is population growth. Cause of Deforestation:

Population growth means an increase in the number of people who live on Earth. Cause of Deforestation:

The population of the world doubled between 1960 and 2008!

An example of deforestation: Changing forest land into farming land.

Farming land: Big areas of forest are cleared for growing things like bananas, coffee and cocoa. Do you know what food we can make from cocoa?

Trees use CO2 (carbon dioxide) to live, which means that the more trees there are, the more CO2 is taken out of the air. When there is less CO2 in the air, the temperature of Earth stays cool. This is good!

When trees are cut or burnt down, they do not use CO2 (carbon dioxide) anymore, so there is more CO2 in the air. This leads to Global Warming. This is why deforestation is a serious problem!
