 Most of the world was suffering from the great depression, many countries were struggling to rebuild economies.  This frustration led citizens to question its countries leaders.  Dictators came to power in Italy and Germany

 Axis: the nations that fought against the allies during world war II, led by Germany, Italy, and Japan.  Japan joined forces with Italy and Germany in 1940

 German Dictator  Promised to restore strength in his nation after being defeated in WWI  Planned to seize land from neighboring countries.

 1940 Germany invaded Poland. › In 1941 America began sending supplies to Great Britain  Japan Invaded china and other parts of southeast Asia › America valued trade with countries Japan was invading › Cut off trade with Japan

 Japan attacked the U.S. Naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  The United States Declared war on Japan who was allied with Germany and Italy…Starting a world wide war.

 Increase in production of war related supplies  Farming production › Lack of farmers › Government excluded them farmers military duty  Lack of men to work jobs › Women took jobs that were normally for men

 Patriotism: devotion to one's country  Rationing: limiting the amounts of certain foods or materials that one is allowed to purchase  Victory Gardens: Private or community garden that people planted to help relieve food shortages during war time
