Site Introductions 1.Receive site placement, rough schedule, and contact info from Grad. Asst. by 9/4 2.Reach out to Site Coordinator and let them know your first shift a.ask for a brief overview or orientation to the campus! Important things to ask: ● What are the needs of this campus? ● What am I expected to bring? ● Who am I working with (student and teacher) ● Give the America Reads Handout to your coordinator and teacher so they know exactly what you should be doing!

Where are we located? ● Learning and Writing Center (Cowell 215) ● Sites: o George Peabody Elementary (SFUSD) o Rosa Parks Elementary (SFUSD) o Yick Wo Elementary (SFUSD) o Tenderloin Community School (SFUSD) o Sanchez Elementary (SFUSD) o Booker T. George Peabody ● Located in the Inner Richmond ● Very small, tight-knit school community ● Has afterschool program ● Demographics o Serves grades K-5 o Predominantly Caucasian, with strong Asian and Hispanic populations o About 16% of students are ELLs

Rosa Parks ● Located in the Western Addition (very close to Japantown) ● Demographics o 390 students grades K-5 o Diverse population (African-American, Asian, Hispanic, Caucasian are largest populations) o 29% of students are ELLs and over half qualify for free or reduced lunch ● Reading Partners Program

Tenderloin Community ● Located in the Tenderloin ● Reading Partners program ● Demographics o Serves over 350 students o Very diverse (large Hispanic, Asian, Caucasian, and African-American populations) o 95% of students receive free or reduced lunch o Over half of students are ELLs

Yick Wo ● Located in North Beach (furthest location from USF) ● Demographics o 263 students grades K-5 o Predominantly Asian and Caucasian populations o 32% of students are ELLs o Half of students receive free or reduced lunch ● Relatively high-ranked school with a strong ELL program

Sanchez ● Located in the Mission ● Demographics o 266 Students in grades K-5 o Predominantly Hispanic population o 66% of students considered ELLs and 90% receive free or reduced lunch ● Reading Partners program ● Considered a high-need school

Booker T. ● Located in the Western Addition ● After School (2pm to 6pm) o Oldest after school program in SF! ● Demographics o Predominantly African-American Population o Serves 55 students (30 in grades K-3) ● Facilitates a multitude of activities for students, including a specific homework and tutoring block

Prince Hall ● Located in the Western Addition (in a housing complex) ● After School (2pm to 6pm) ● Demographics o Predominantly African-American Population o Serves students K-7th (9 students K-3rd) ● Creative, laid-back education style! ● Homework and enrichment block (usually an activity led by staff member)

Reading Partners Located at: ● Sanchez ● Rosa Parks ● Tenderloin Community Non-profit organization that pulls specific students during the school day to work 1-1 in 45 min. targeted tutoring sessions guided by a pre-written staggered curriculum
