Segment 2 Objective: In this second segment you will practice categorizing relationships between organisms that are competitive or mutually beneficial To do this you must read the situations below and decide before viewing the video whether or not the relationships are competitive or mutually beneficial. Next decide who will win if you believe it is a competitive situation. Finally take note of any predator or prey adaptions that help them survive. Situation 1 Shark and Loggerhead Sea Turtle Situation 2 Shark and Jack fish, Mackerel, and Sucker fish Situation 3 Shark Rays, and Fisherman Now that you have decided which situations are competitive or mutually beneficial click on the picture to the right and check your answers.

Sunny Meadows Segment 3 : In this segment you will examine the role of each organism in the rabbit, plant, and food chain. Adjust the numbers in each population and observe ecological change of many years. The goal can you sustain all three populations. What is the correct combination of organisms to make this happen? Record the combinations you use on a sheet of paper so you do not keep using an unsuccessful combination. Click on the picture below to start.

Build Your Own Food Web Segment 3: Can you accurately place the components of a food chain. We know that each organism has a role to play, but they are needed at specific points in the food web. Can you identify the appropriate organism by building a functional food chain? Click on the picture above and choose an one of the 4 ecosystems and create an accurate food chain. Good Luck!

Segment Four Ecology Simulator In this segment you will experiment by changing not just 3 factors as you did previously in the “Sunny Meadows” assignment. Here you have nine different factors to set. You are to run this experiment three times and record the parameters you set and the outcomes! To access the ecology simulator simply click on the picture to the right or click on the link below! envsci/interactives/ecology/ecolo gy.html In this segment you will experiment by changing not just 3 factors as you did previously in the “Sunny Meadows” assignment.
