PREDOMINANT  Adj- having a dominating influence over others UNWIELDY  Adj-awkward or clumsy

LITERARY TERMS

ANALOGY  Explaining the unfamiliar using the familiar  Like comparing a heart to a pump

IRONY  contrast between what is expected and what actually exists or happens

 DRAMATIC IRONY -when the audience knows something that one or more characters don’t  SITUATIONAL IRONY -when there is a difference between what is expected to happen and what happens  VERBAL IRONY -occurs when the speaker means something totally different (often the opposite) than what he or she is saying (sarcasm)

MONOLOGUE  Long uninterrupted speeches where a character reveals his or her personality

OXYMORON  combines contradictory words or ideas

PERSONIFICATION  Giving something not human, human qualities

SOLILOQUY  a speech delivered by a character who is alone on the stage.  a speech delivered by a character who is alone on the stage.
