Directions Please take A Message of Ancient Days from the stack by the window and open to page 475.

Directions On a new page in your notebook, please set up your paper using the Cornell Method of note taking from the other day. If you can’t remember, look at the diagram on the board.

Survey/Question/Read/Recite/Review Survey – look at the pages 475 – 481 Question – from what you see on these pages, write down any questions you have… Read Recite Review We are going to be doing things a little differently since we will be completing the questions from your warm up using Think/Pair/Share…

Barbarian Invasions The invasions into Roman territory took place over a period of 300 years. Romans treated the barbarians badly because they were different. Internal problems allowed the barbarians to eventually reach the heart of the empire. The western part of the empire fell apart in 476 while the eastern part lasted for another 1000 years.

Growth of the Church As the Roman Empire got weaker, Christianity continued to get stronger because many of the barbarians were Christian. Pagan Romans blamed the Christians for the decline of the empire because the Christian God did nothing to protect the empire. When the western part of the empire fell, the church continued to be strong.

Summary In your own words, complete a short summary of the section you just finished. When you are done, please return the book to the side of the room by the window. We will share some of these summaries with the rest of the class once all the books are back.

Important Terms Pagan – someone who does not acknowledge the God of Christianity (Judaism or Islam)

Important People Visigoths – tribe of invaders who settled in eastern part of the Roman Empire and marched into Rome in 410 C.E. Alaric – leader of the Visigoths who attacked the city of Rome
