 Are laws meant to punish or reward?  Are laws meant to protect? Who?  What if instead of taking off points when you don’t do your homework, I added points when you did?  Should illegal immigrants in the US be protected with our laws?

 Do we need laws?  Would your behavior be good if you knew that you wouldn’t be punished?

 Page 5 in handout  Simply stated laws (282 total)  Clear punishments  Read 6 laws from handout  What can you infer about lives of people from higher classes?  Thought to be of greater value  Do you believe that knowing the severity of the punishments might prevent people from breaking the law?

 Look at # from packet  Is “an eye for an eye” or “a life for a life” a good or poor basis for laws?
