A Goal Without a Plan is Just a Wish

Strategic Planning We all need to to work toward common goals. White paper is our driving force but we still have other obligations as an association NYSACTE Vision NYSACTE is the advocate for Career and Technical Education, an integral part of the total education system in New York.

NYSACTE MISSION To provide leadership in developing a competitive workforce. To provide leadership and unification for Career and Technical Education professional associations. To provide the members of the CTE community with professional development. To promote Career and Technical Education with students, student leadership organizations, the education community, and the public. To monitor and initiate legislative and policy activities that enhance and promote Career and Technical Education.

SWOT Analysis Strengths (List here anything you can think of that makes your organization amazing! What can you rely on to deliver your services?) Weaknesses (What isn’t quite the way it should be yet? What is missing?) Opportunities (List here any potential opportunities to really push your organization forward that you have not yet taken advantage of.) Threats ( List here anything that might get in your way of achieving your goals – such as funding you aren’t sure of yet, relationships that might break down, etc.)

Strategic Planning We identified four major Areas to focus on: 1.Advocacy 2.Structure – Operations 3.Communication 4.Membership

TASK Many hands make light work At your table review the Strategic plan draft of the four areas add your comments and suggestions. Identify any items that we may have overlooked and add them to the document. If you have any areas that YOU feel you could help us to succeed in carrying out indicate with your name on the document and what specific task that you would be willing to help with.

Five Tests for a Good Strategic plan Comprehension- Do you understand the language? Appropriateness- Is this what we need to be focused on? Sustainability- Can we continue this work? Feasibility-Objectives, supporting goals and stratigies a realistic and achievable and comprehensive Accountability – is it clearly defined? Commitment made?

THE ASK Communication- Monthly Memos How many months would your organization be willing to send them out to inform your membership about the role of NYSACTE? months. It would be once a month in the middle of the month

In an effort to become more informed about CTE in New York State would you add me to your Newsletter list?

Membership The Ask Membership – Our Goal is Simple: To Provide the professional development, leadership training, advocacy, networking, and resources that CTE educators need to succeed in the field. If you are not a member fill out and give it to Kim or myself.

How Can I help? Is there some support that your organization needs from NYSACTE?

Thank you for your assistance and continued support in moving NYSACTE forward as we improve CTE education for the students of New York
