Christ Defeated Satan St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, February 16 th

Welcome to St. Peter! We have entered the serious and somber season of the Church Year, Lent. In today’s readings, hymns and prayers we see Jesus defeat Satan in our place in the desert. May we repent of our lost battles with the Evil One, and run to our High Priest for mercy and grace in our time of need!

Welcome to St. Peter! There are friendship registers at the end of each row. Please take a moment to give us your information so that we have a record of your time with us today. Thank you!

Prayer before Worship Dear Lord Jesus, I thank you for overcoming the devil and his temptations for me. I have become his victim, time and time again and I am truly sorry. But I flee to you for forgiveness, and for the strength of your Word to resist his temptations and to live to your glory and praise.

Please be courteous and silence all pagers and cell phones. Thank you

On Eagles’ Wings CW # 440 Verses 1-3 Text: Michael Joncas, b Setting: ON EAGLE’S WINGS Tune: Michael Joncas, b. 1951, alt.

Verse 1: You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord, Who abide in his shadow for life, Say to the Lord: “My refuge, My rock in whom I trust”

Refrain: And he will raise you up on Eagles’ wings, Bear you on the breath of dawn, Make you to shine like the sun, And hold you in the palm of his hand.

Verse 2: Snares of the fowler will never capture you, And famine will bring you no fear; Under his wings your refuge, His faithfulness your shield.

Refrain: And he will raise you up on Eagles’ wings, Bear you on the breath of dawn, Make you to shine like the sun, And hold you in the palm of his hand.

Verse 3 (Please Rise): For to his angels he’s given a command To guard you in all of your ways; Upon their hands they will bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.

Children’s Message

A Mighty Fortress is our God CW #201 Verses 1-4 Text: Martin Luther, Setting: EIN FESTE BURG Tune: Martin Luther,

Verse 1: A mighty fortress is our God, A trusty shield and weapon; He helps us free from ev'ry need That has us now o'ertaken. The old evil foe Now means deadly woe; Deep guile and great might Are his dread arms in fight; On earth is not his equal.

Verse 2: With might of ours can naught be done, Soon were our loss effected; But for us fights the valiant one Whom God himself elected. You ask, "Who is this?" Jesus Christ it is, The almighty Lord, And there's no other God; He holds the field forever.

Verse 3: Though devils all the world should fill, All eager to devour us, We tremble not, we fear no ill; They shall not overpow'r us. This world's prince may still Scowl fierce as he will, He can harm us none. He's judged; the deed is done! One little word can fell him.

Verse 4: The Word they still shall let remain Nor any thanks have for it; He's by our side upon the plain With his good gifts and Spirit. And do what they will-- Hate, steal, hurt, or kill-- Though all may be gone, Our victory is won; The kingdom's our forever!

“We Have a Great High Priest…”

In thankfulness for our salvation, we support God’s work with our offerings.

Offering Prayer Prayer of the Church Pastor: …let us pray to the Lord: All: Lord, have mercy.

Lord’s Prayer All: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread.

Lord’s Prayer All: Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Lord’s Prayer All: For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen

God’s Blessing Pastor: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. All: Amen.

Chief of Sinners Though I Be CW #385 Verses 1 & 5 Text: William McComb, Setting: GETHSEMANE Tune: Richard Redhead,

Verse 1: Chief of sinners though I be, Jesus shed his blood for me, Died that I might live on high, Lives that I might never die. As the branch is to the vine, I am his and he is mine!

Verse 5: Strengthen me, O gracious Lord, By your Spirit and your word. When my wayward heart would stray, Keep me in the narrow way; Grace in time of need supply While I live and when I die.
